Applied Economics and IT Skills

First year module

These linked modules are designed to integrate the elements of applied economics – theory, data and statistical inference – so that students acquire the practical skills to analyse actual economic phenomena. The modules will use only simple techniques and apply them to relevant examples.

Learning outcomes

On completion of these linked modules, students will be able to: Use Excel to analyse economic data; Apply economic knowledge to real world data; Display IT presentation and communication skills and relate these skills to the particular requirements of economics.

Assessment

  • Computer Exam (70%)
  • Term 1, 1 hour class test (20%)
  • Term 2, Two Assignments (5% each)
