Final year module
The dissertation is your chance to study a topic of particular interest to you. You decide on the topic which should have some relevance to Sociology.
This linked module involves self-directed study under the guidance of a supervisor. Students will be expected to use the research skills and concepts introduced in years one and two to conduct their own research project and to present it in an appropriate style. Supervision will be by a combination of group and individual sessions, as appropriate.
By the end of the module the student will be able to:
demonstrate an ability to work on his/her own;
relate his/her specific research question to the academic and cultural context (including a thorough review of the literature);
use his/her own initiative in collecting and presenting appropriate material/data;
use the materials/data collected to engage creatively with relevant debates in Cultural Studies and/or Sociology, drawing appropriate conclusions;
present a well structured dissertation, employing appropriate academic conventions (including referencing, bibliography etc.).
Final dissertation should be approximately 12,000 words in length
