Core Language 3

The compulsory Core Language module is organised around a number of separate components: translation in and out of French (prose & translation), oral and aural tasks. The weekly prose and translation classes reinforce and develop the skills in years 1 and 2, so as to equip students with the necessary skills to produce accurate and stylish written translations and proses. Grammar reinforcement activities are blended in. A weekly expression orale class with a native-speaking Assistant Language Tutor (lecteur/lectrice) focuses on oral and aural aspects of the language, and seeks to develop the students’ ability to research in the contemporary French press and debate selected French current affairs topics. It also helps students develop the ability to write summaries of audio recordings relating to French current affairs.
