This module looks at the development of the medical profession and the interaction with society from 1750-1950 within the United Kingdom. In addition to reviewing the major medical developments of their time and assessing their impact, the module will also discuss the emergence of the medical profession as well as the changing relationship between medical practitioners and patients. Furthermore, in addition to discussing a range of factors that played a major role in enhancing medicine at this time, specific attention will be paid to successive government policies and legislation throughout the period, culminating in the creation of the NHS.
