The Economics and Politics of Public Health

All countries are facing numerous public health policy challenges, from funding healthcare to allocating scare public resources on health improvement measures. These challenges have economic and political implications as well as potential economic and political solutions.

In this module we will introduce core economic concepts in the context of applied public health, for example in relation to obesity, sexual health, substance misuse etc. There will also be a focus on the role of political actors in the formation and implementation of health policy. The module will equip you with the knowledge and tools to evaluate health policy options and interpret economic analyses.
