Control Of Human Movement

Programmes

  • Sport and Exercise Sciences BSc (Hons)

Level

Year Two

20 Credits

The module will cover brain structure and function - including neural pathways - that control voluntary movement, posture, locomotion and sensation. The course will also introduce aspects of the psychology of sensation-action coupling and motor control. Applications to pathology and sport will be covered.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module students should be able to:

  • Understand, explain and discuss the main components of the nervous system involved in the control of sensation and movement.
  • Understand, explain and discuss the structures and connections between the major motor systems.
  • Understand, explain and discuss the basic mechanisms of spinal reflexes, proprioception, sensation, posture and eye movements.
