Exchange students in the College of Arts and Law

Artistic photo of the University of Birmingham campus by student Anita BaumgärtnerEvery year around 150 students from abroad come and study here for one term or a full academic year.

Year after year, the visiting students report that the time they spend living in Britain is profitable and enjoyable, both academically and socially. It is, for many students, a significantly formative experience and a very special memory.

As a Humanities Erasmus/Exchange student you may choose from a wide range of modules.

  • If you intend to study with us for one academic year, you should register for 120 credits (20 Birmingham credits = 10 ECTS); if you are going to be with us for one semester only, it is 60 credits.
  • If you require a visa to enter the UK you must take a full credit load of 120/60 credits, respectively.
  • At the end of your study period we will automatically send a transcript of you marks to your home university.
  • There is a compulsory induction meeting for all College of Arts and Law students during Welcome Week; our International Office will let you know the details.

Language buddy scheme

As an Erasmus/Exchange student in the College of Arts and Law you have the opportunity to participate to the Language buddy scheme. You will be paired up with a home student who is studying your language here at Birmingham, and this will help you to improve your English and to more easily integrate into the community on campus.
