Module information for incoming Erasmus and Exchange students interested in modules at the Department of Drama and Theatre Arts.
There is only one module being offered in this department to Erasmus Students:
The Dramatic Medium (20 credits) - Terms 1 and 2
This module aims to provide students with a conceptual language with which to examine dramatic works and theatrical performance. The main components of the module introduce ideas central to the dramatic medium such as dramatic action, narrative and the nature of character, analyse the main dramatic forms of epic, tragedy, comedy and tragi-comedy, and examine the theatrical performer in a range of historical and social contexts. The module also considers the theory and practice of non-dramatic (or ‘post-dramatic’) performance.
The module is taught by weekly lectures and seminars, the latter being an opportunity to follow up ideas and questions raised by the texts and the lectures. In Weeks 7-11 of the Spring Term, ERASMUS students will develop personalized research projects for a final essay submission, ideas for which will be explored and discussed in two dedicated seminar meetings.
