Module description

This module investigates a range of experimental contemporary performance and theatre focusing on Britain and North America. Building on the theatrical enquiries of the historical avant-garde, contemporary playwrights and performance practitioners have questioned the expectations of performers and audiences about how theatre, and its mimetic double reality, might be understood, how it might be practised, and what its socio-political function might be. In doing so, they have revised, but at the same time, may have entrenched, new conventions of theatrical language, representation and subjectivity.
