Module description

The module considers a series of conflicts which have impacted on the Middle East, considering their causes, course and consequences including the world wars, the Arab-Israeli wars, the Israeli-Palestinian struggle and the Gulf Wars. The courses analysed range from Great Power intervention to inter-ethnic rivalry driven by religious differences, competition for scarce resources (especially oil), and geographic location (including the need to control vital communications routes especially the Suez Canal).
