Module description

This module examines the history of the British Army from the Stuart Restoration to the end of National Service. The module focuses on the social, cultural, political and military aspects of this history, exploring the army's composition, organisation, commanders, relations with civilian society and its effectiveness as an instrument of war. Seminars will pursue these issues either in relation to a given period or a specified campaign.
