Module description

The module examines cinematic and televisual representations of Classical Greece and Rome, from the 1950s to contemporary film and television. (Selections of films will vary from year to year to allow for inclusions of up-to-date material, but the focus will predominantly be on Rome rather than Greece). Key issues will include:
Uses of/representation of spectacle (eg gladiatorial)
Hollywood story-telling
History and fiction
Representation of gender and sexuality
Representation of slavery
