Module description

The material for study will be a varied selection of musical works by Johann Sebastian Bach, for keyboard, voices and instruments, and orchestra or chamber ensemble. The nature of the sources, the questions that they pose, the composers musical language and his historical, geographical, intellectual and musical contexts will be among the subjects considered.

Teaching and learning methods

Ten seminars of two hours each; some tutor-led, others student-led; assessment by two essays, each of 2,500-3,000 words
