Module description

The module comprises an introduction to techniques used by present-day editors of music of the baroque period. We shall explore the nature of manuscript and printed sources of Baroque music, the techniques of transcribing and editing the musical and verbal texts of this repertory, and discuss how music can be re-presented in user-friendly format for present-day scholars and performers. There will be explanatory classes, with exercises each fortnight.
