Module description

This module builds on the knowledge acquired at Advanced Spanish Levels III and IV. It gives you the opportunity to develop a higher proficiency in written and spoken Spanish. Open-ended tasks and discussion exercises foster communication skills and encourage self-expression, while structured comprehension and linguistic exercises consolidate understanding of the grammatical elements picked out from the texts. You will also be encouraged to develop translation and interpretation skills from Spanish into English.

By the end of the module you should be able to:
Perform a variety of unpredictable oral and written tasks in Spanish;
Deal with complex issues relating to Spanish grammar (morphology/syntax);
Read and understand complex articles from the Spanish press on a wide range of topics;
Listen to and understand Spanish news broadcasts;
Debate and discuss unprepared topics in Spanish;
Understand a discussion between two native speakers of Spanish;
Identify and articulate in writing (in Spanish) knowledge of the main aspects of modern Spain;
Translate written or oral texts from English into Spanish;
Work extensively and with a variety of Spanish sources, including the internet;
Develop an understanding of and competence in various complex registers.
