Module description

Aim To acquire basic skills in the Mandarin language and to introduce you to relevant aspects of Chinese life and culture. Objectives At the end of the course you will be able to: - deal with predictable activities in listening, speaking, reading and writing - show understanding of basic spoken language - extract relevant information from simple texts - conduct basic conversations in Mandarin - convey simple information in writing - display knowledge of cultural contexts and conventions appropriate to language use at this level.

Teaching and learning methods

Practical language classes involving both whole-group and small-group/pair-work activities with emphasis on oral communication, use of visual aids, audio/video recordings and use of language laboratory where appropriate.
