Module description

The course will foster contrastive analysis of social-cultural aspects of Japan and British cultures by selecting several topics from the list below:
Various topical social, cultural, economical and political events in the Japanese-speaking world as they happen;
Work, Leisure, Festivities and Travelling: Japanese work and leisure patterns will be examined and contrasted with conditions in the home country of the participants. Various festivities in the Japanese diary will be looked at to foster further understanding of Japanese society;
Family: the changing role and shape of the family in Japanese society as one aspect of a rapidly changing society;
Schools: contrastive analysis and evaluation of the Japan and British school system;
Sports: the role of sports in society and people's perception of them;
Music and Films: the influence of Japanese film on society, along with Japanese traditional plays and music.
