Module description

This module aims to further develop and extend listening, reading, speaking and writing skills acquired at Level 4 or in a recent GCSE. More emphasis will be put on development of learning strategies and debating skills. Students will learn to cope with a range of less predictable real-life situations, using a variety of materials in addition to the main textbook: authentic texts, dialogues, interviews, radio and TV programmes and short presentations. By the end of the module, the majority of participants will have reached B1 (Common European Framework) in all skills.

Teaching and learning methods

Practical language classes involving both whole-group and small group/pair work activities. Students’ active participation is fostered via the use of visual aids, audio/video recordings and the Internet. 3 contact hours a week.
