Module description

This module aims to produce students who are skilled communicators, able to speak Portuguese fluently, understand spoken standard Portuguese, write Portuguese correctly and translate a range of registers with accuracy and flair.

The three hours per week are distributed between a one hour language structure (grammar and vocabulary), one hour translation from and into Portuguese and a one hour oral/aural classes. Students will revise grammatical, syntactical and lexical aspects and will examine different registers of Portuguese in formal and informal texts. It will also involve writing essays and commentaries in Portuguese, doing video and aural comprehension work, and work on socio-linguistics and text analysis.

The sessions will cover topics of the culture and civilization of the Portuguese-speaking world, through textual and visual registers of European and Brazilian Portuguese.
