Module description

The module is designed to enable students to study UK social policy in practice through the experience of a volunteering placement in a local organisation, community, group or other setting. A series of lectures and workshops focusing on social policy areas, themes, concepts and service delivery organisation will introduce students to the social policy context of their volunteering placement. Prior to the volunteering placement students will take part in an induction course on volunteering and then arrange their own volunteering placement with the support of the module co-ordinator, the Student Guild and other volunteering agencies. Throughout the volunteering placement students will keep a reflective diary and will meet to critically reflect on the placement within its social policy context.
