The aim of the module is to give you the necessary learning and practice of business and professional skills in order to prepare you for the detailed group design project in year 3.

Financial Data - how to read a company report, balance sheets, ratios, etc.
Business / market plan for a product
Project Management:
Project planning - objectives, scope,
Critical path analysis (activity on node)
Resource analysis using MS Project
How to relate to project stakeholders
Health and Safety:
Introduction to the present Law of Health & Safety in England
Issues relating to the structure, control, monitoring and enforcement of Health & Safety
Roles of the Health & Safety Commission, the Health & Safety Executive
Case Studies / examples of unsafe / dangerous working practices
Introduction to Risk Analysis & RIDDOR, COSSH and REACH
Case Studies / examples of the real dangers and incidents in industry
Law:
Introduction to the English Legal System
Impact of legal issues on commerce - dispute resolution, employment law, discrimination
commercial contracts and product liability
