The University of Birmingham is investing over £600 million in transforming its campus between 2016 - 2026. These upcoming developments have also been preceded by other pioneering projects designed to benefit students, staff and the local community.
Student experience, teaching and learning
The University has already delivered a number of major projects designed to enhance the student experience, as part of its capital development programme. From outstanding new accommodation, a state-of-the-art library, a dedicated student hub and world-class sports club, students at Birmingham are equipped to achieve. The Green Heart has transformed the heart of campus, while the Collaborative Teaching Laboratory is changing the way STEM subjects are taught.
World leading research
Major research investment has also been made to ensure that the University’s research facilities and resources compete on a world stage. These include the Birmingham Institute for Forest Research, Institute of Translational Medicine, the Alan Walters Building and the High Temperature Research Centre.
The wider community
Previous investment has also been used to deliver projects which bring benefit to the wider community. As well as the University sports club, which is open to the public, we have opened the first stand-alone dental hospital and school to be built in the UK for almost 40 years, and the UK’s first University secondary school and sixth form college.
