Words feature in many artists work: Anneka French will explore the possibilities and uses of text within contemporary visual art. Focusing on significant British and international practitioners, Anneka will address how artists appropriate the form and meaning of the written word, exploring the notion of text as art, and looking at how text can play a role in augmenting meaning within art.
The session will additionally investigate how visual art might be ‘read’ as text by looking at the work of Martin Creed, Laure Prouvost, Cy Twombly, Mark Rothko and others.
