School of Civil Engineering receive a Project Award from the institution of Civil Engineers in the Education category for a collaborative project with Interserve, titled 'Bridging the gap', an interactive activity to develop knowledge and understanding of simple civil engineering concepts.

Turning planes into phone cases: new paper shows fibre-reinforced polymers can be recycled effectively and economically

Description
New, composite materials such as fibre-reinforced polymers used for new-generation planes and vehicles are non-biodegradable and, at the moment, unrecyclable – so what do we do with the products when their serviceable life is over? Two researchers in the School of Chemical Engineering are hoping their groundbreaking work in this little-known field will provide opportunity for the global recycling of materials like glass and carbon fibres for phone cases or knitting needles!
