Resilience, Energy and Sustainability

Solving the UK’s energy crisis requires a multi-level approach, from tackling alternative energy technologies, such as nuclear, and intelligent power networks to decarbonising transport through the use of hydrogen cars and designing more ‘resilient’ cities.

Resilience, energy and sustainability

Our researchers are meeting these considerable challenges in several ways, including:

Our Centre for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Research is the UK’s national centre for hydrogen research into the generation, storage and use of this energy source, as well as fuel cell-enabled vehicles.

The Birmingham Centre for Resilience Research and Education designs sustainable infrastructure and systems for cities and develops ‘smart’ technologies for the design and control of utilities for the urban environment.
