What did you like most about the city of Birmingham or living and studying in the UK?

I liked the fact that Birmingham is relatively multicultural which certainly helped to buffer some of the culture shock when I first moved here. The campus is vast, green, and beautiful and so conveniently located near the city centre which offers many options in terms of dining and entertainment. Furthermore, the fact that Birmingham is centrally located in England was a blessing when it came to going for a weekend getaway in London or exploring other parts of Britain.

Why did you choose Medicine at Birmingham?

I hadn’t actually considered Birmingham until a British surgeon spending his retirement overseeing the international department of one of the hospitals in my home country of Thailand recommended its medical school to me during my work experience; and I couldn’t be more grateful that he did! Birmingham provides a combination of lectures, facilitated group tutorials, and self-directed learning that allows for a smoother transition from high school to university learning. Its medical curriculum is quite holistic, equipping us not only with pre-clinical science and clinical skills but also with knowledge from fields such as sociology, psychology and ethics in the hopes that we can be well-rounded doctors. Finally, attending hospital placements in a big city so multicultural means that medical students are presented with conditions affecting people of all ages and from all walks of life.
