Where are you working now and what you are doing?

I am working in a large NHS / private dental practice in Exmouth, East Devon overlooking the beautiful beach. I have remained working at the practice as an Associate Dentist since completing my foundation training. I work with 6 other dentists, 3 of whom are recent Birmingham graduates. At dinner times, we run along the beach to the docks to get us out in the fresh air with the other dentists. I also join our practice principle yacht racing in the bay two nights a week. I have integrated into the local community well.

How has your career developed since graduation from the University of Birmingham?

Half way through my [foundation] training the partners in the practice asked me if I would like to stay on after training and be a partner. I was very excited about this, as now I have a new set of challenges in front of me post training. Working as part of the management team will be a new experience, but a welcome one.

What do you think were the best points to the Dental Surgery degree and the University?

One of the best points to my degree was the early patient contact compared to other universities. We had fun educating lecturers with a wealth of knowledge. University life was jam packed at Birmingham. I joined many sports and societies whilst at the University from rowing, rugby and boxing in my first year and skiing in my second year. I then joined art, life drawing, go karting and fine arts in my third year, before trying horse polo and sailing in fourth year.
