WILLIAM WITHERING LECTURE 2013
“Military mental health: Myths and Realities”
Professor Sir Simon Wessely
Vice Dean, Institute of Psychiatry
Head, Department of Psychological Medicine
Director, King’s Centre for Military Health Research
King’s College London
Ten years have passed since the start of the Iraq war. But what has been the impact of this on the mental health of the UK servicemen and women who have served there? Are they as some claim all depressed, demoralised, dangerous and drug addicted? Is there a bow wave or tidal wave of problems heading our way? I will look at what we know about the mental health consequences and what perhaps we might expect in the future.
This lecture is open to all, pre-registration is not required.
