Professor Jayne Franklyn, School of Immunity and Infection, gave a talk entitled “are we training too many women doctors?” This was followed by an informal networking event, giving the opportunity to find a mentor, and talk to other women in medicine. This event was attended by 30 participants and 10 mentors.
6th December: Athena SWAN talk
After successfully attaining the Athena SWAN silver award for the Department of Optometry and vision at the University of Cardiff, Professor Tim Weiss, head of department, was invited to discuss their experiences and initiatives that were introduced in the department when applying for the silver award.

14th September: Official WAM launch.
The official launch for the WAM initiative took place at Winterbourne gardens, starting with a buffet lunch and a talk entitled ‘Banana Skins, Bottle-necks and
Elephant Traps’ given by Baroness Susan Greenfield Department of Pharmacology, University of Oxford. This was followed by an informal networking session, a guided tour of Winterbourne House and Garden and afternoon tea.
