College of Social Sciences (CoSS)

The College of Social Sciences brings together over 360 academics (including 86 professors) and 264 professional staff across a range of disciplines and interdisciplinary fields. Around 25% of our staff are international and combined with over 42,500 global alumni representing over 185 countries, our work impacts all areas of society grounded in the key disciplines of business, economics, education, government and society, and social policy.

Should universities be charged with opening or sponsoring schools?

The Prime Minister, Theresa May, has twice praised the University of Birmingham in recent months for what we have done in setting up our own fully comprehensive secondary school – the first of its kind in England. In fact, the Prime Minister has gone further, saying she wants to see other universities setting up schools or sponsoring existing underperforming ones.

LifeSavers is a joint initiative by the Church of England and Young Enterprise. It seeks to establish schools savings clubs in primary schools across the UK in conjunction with a financial education curriculum.
