Asylum crisis? What crisis?

With the monthly asylum application figures published today and these demonstrating a 527 reduction in the number of asylum seekers making their claims on British soil from 2751 in January 2015 and from 2370 the equivalent period last year, I find myself wondering why have the numbers decreased?

On World Autism Awareness Day, UK experts are calling for stronger links with India to develop best autism practices that are relevant to the specific cultural and local needs of the country. A research team from the University of Birmingham, UCL Institute of Education (IOE) and the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT Hyderabad) are currently visiting schools in Hyderabad, engaging with teachers and parents on how technology can support children with autism in India.

The rapid escalation this year in the numbers of people drowned as they flee in leaky boats across the Mediterranean is a direct consequence of the conflict in Iraq, Syria and north Africa, specifically Libya – where the implications of the Western intervention are playing out in the deaths of thousands, whether from the violence itself or as they try desperately to escape to safety.
