The Centre for Learning and Academic Development (CLAD) works collaboratively with colleagues across the University to improve the student learning experience. CLAD's services include dedicated support and guidance for teaching enhancement activities, learning and teaching technologies, accredited training, an annual teaching and learning conference, and a teaching reward and recognition programme.
The Centre offers a range of staff development opportunities including the Higher Education Academy accredited PGCert in Academic Practice (the previous programme PGCert Learning and Teaching in Higher Education is now closed to new entrants), and an open programme of learning and teaching courses. A guide for teaching staff is also provided, as well as advice on developing your learning and teaching.
The University's eLearning Team provides support to Colleges and Corporate Services in the use and development of learning technologies.
There is a dedicated Learning and Progression Project Manager within CLAD, who aims to improve the students' learning experience throughout their time with the University by collaborating with academic staff to develop innovative projects and approaches in areas such as student transition, induction, academic support and skills, teaching and assessment activities.
CLAD's work is also complemented by the Skills Development Team which supports the development of academic skills and ICT skills.
