Special Collections are responsible for the on-going conservation, preservation and management of the University's Archive and Special Collections. The Director of Special Collections also acts as the University Archivist.
As well as having responsibility for directly supporting the University’s research, learning and teaching agenda by collecting and making fully accessible all collections, Special Collections are also tasked with seeking to acquire material which ties into this agenda.
The Special Collections and Archives of the University currently consist of approximately 120,000 pre-1850 books dating from 1471 and some 3 million manuscripts.
