Legal Services

Legal Services provides in-house legal advice to the University.

Legal Services advises on charitable and corporate governance matters; drafting policies and Regulations; Employment Law and legal issues arising in student appeals and discipline cases. We also advise on specialist contracts which the University enters into (including issues relating to intellectual property, and research contracts), together with a wide range of conveyancing and commercial transactions.

Legal Services are also responsible for compliance with various statutory obligations, including Data Protection, Freedom of Information, Child Protection and Equality legislation.

The solicitors within Legal Services can act as Commissioners for Oaths and swear documents for members of the public including both staff and students; however Legal Services cannot advise or represent individual members of staff or students in personal matters.

Legal Services is the conduit for seeking advice from external solicitors and will liaise as necessary.
