The Guild of Students

Mark Harrop

What is the Guild of Students?

The Guild of Students is the students’ union for more than 28,000 students at the University of Birmingham. As a student at the University, you are automatically a member of the Guild unless you have opted out.

The Guild is here to support the University in improving your university experience. We also run a range of services for students, including a Job Zone to help you find part-time work; the Advice and Representation Centre (ARC) for free, impartial and confidential advice; a lettings agency just for Birmingham students; and a student mentor scheme to offer advice and support in university accommodation. Many services are also available through the University itself, so you can get advice wherever you feel most comfortable.

Getting involved

Mark Harrop, Guild of Students President  "Eighty four per cent of students last year said that the Guild had made a positive contribution to their time at university, so I encourage you to come and find out more, and get involved."

The Guild runs more than 180 student societies and 250 volunteering opportunities, so there's something for everyone. Getting involved is a great way to gain valuable skills and experience which benefit you, and your CV.

You can also have your say by voting in our elections, attending student council or our forums, and by getting involved in our campaigns.

Welcome week events

To welcome you, the Guild has organised a week of events and activities which complement the University’s activities to help you settle into university life; check out www.guildofstudents.com/welcomeweek.
