Description
Compulsory event

Speed BSc is an interactive induction day, designed to help you get to know the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences and our campus.  It’s based around the idea that you do a whole “BSc” in a day – ending with a graduation ceremony!  It’s a busy day, but it’s a great way to get started after a week of Freshers!

You’ll be put in small groups to complete certain tasks and between you, you’ll figure out how to do some of the practical things that you will need to do in your degree programme.  The tasks are loosely themed around the sport sciences, so it’ll get you started thinking about your degree, and the types of things you could learn.  More importantly, it’ll introduce you to our approach to independent learning, and the opportunities and challenges that it can bring.  You’ll also get to know some more people in your year group, work with some second and third year student mentors, and meet some more members of staff.  This is where you really start to become part of the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences!

Plan for the day

The day starts at 9am in the Avon Room (in University Centre in the middle of campus).  From here, you’ll be split into groups, and you’ll be working all around campus, so please wear shoes and clothes that are suitable for a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities!

If you have a smart phone, with the ability to take photos and email them, please bring it with you.  Alternatively a camera with a card reader would also be useful.  Don’t worry if you don’t have these; hopefully someone in your group will!

The day will finish back in the Avon Room for a “graduation ceremony” where you’ll get to hear from alumni and the student society.  We’ll be all finished by 5pm, ready for whatever your Friday night has to offer!

If you have any questions, please email the first year tutor and course organiser Dr Andy Blannin (A.K.Blannin@bham.ac.uk).

See you all then!
