Birmingham and the local area

Bullring shopping centreThe city you live in plays an important part in your University experience. Find out about night life, shopping and getting around in Birmingham.

The city of Birmingham

With more students than any UK city outside London, Birmingham is a fantastic place to study and live. A £9 billion regeneration programme is transforming the city into a vibrant centre, with great shopping, theatres and night life.

The main Edgbaston Campus is located only 3 miles from Birmingham city centre, and close to the shopping areas of Edgbaston, Selly Oak, Harborne, and Selly Park.

Why our students love Birmingham

Birmingham has been named as one of the ten best cities to visit in 2015 according to the Rough Guide's worldwide rankings and has been rated as one of the top eight student cities in the UK. Take a look at what our students love about Birmingham, on and off campus, to get some ideas for places to visit and things to do when you arrive.

Getting around

There are plenty of ways to get around the campuses and into the city centre. The University has its own train station -   "University", and a number of bus routes go from the University into and around Birmingham.
