University of Birmingham and Mauritius

We have a long tradition of welcoming students from Mauritius. We have a growing number of students from Mauritius following a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University.

We have dedicated international recruitment officers who will support you during all stages of your enquiry and application to the University. We offer a range of ways to speak to our staff and current students to get information and advice on living and studying in Birmingham.

The following information is for guidance only and should be used together with the University's general entrance requirements and any specific degree programme requirements.

Please note: If you have taken exams which are from another country's national education system (eg SAT and AP exams from the USA) you should consult the country specific section for that country for qualification equivalence information. If you are unsure about the acceptability of your qualifications for entry to Birmingham please contact us for further details.

English Language

You will need to demonstrate a certain level of English language, either through an English test such as IELTS, TOEFL or PTE, or we may be able to accept your previous or alternative qualifications as evidence. Please view the entry requirements for specific programme requirements, and details on our presessional English language courses.

For study on our Foundation and Undergraduate programmes English language at grade C or above in the CIE O Level or Cambridge High School Certificate is sufficient to meet the standard English language requirements.

For Postgraduate programmes Mauritian nationals with a degree from Mauritius or another English speaking country (as on the University's approved list) are not required to submit an English Language test.

Foundation Pathways

Applicants who possess high school leaving qualifications equivalent to UK A Levels will not normally be considered eligible for the Foundation Pathways. However if you choose to take a Foundation Pathway as an adjustment year, you would be required to have at least an ABB profile, to include Mathematics for the Engineering and Physical Sciences pathway or 13/20 in the Baccalauréat Général with at least 13/20 in Maths for Engineering and Physical Sciences pathway.

If you have achieved English Language at grade C, you will not be required to take an additional English proficiency test (for the 4-year programme).

The University will consider students who have taken GCE A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB), the French Baccalaureate, or a suitable foundation programme, such as our Foundation Pathways, for entrance to undergraduate programmes.
