How to apply

1. Login and apply from 1 December 2022

You can apply for accommodation as soon as you have your offer letter. We encourage you to do this even if Birmingham is your insurance choice.

To get started, you’ll need to launch the Accommodation Portal and select the ‘First time login’ option from the navigation. Simply follow the steps detailed on there and you’ll be ready to apply via your account.

Don’t worry if you don’t have access right away; it can take up to 48 hours from receiving your offer letter for our systems to process your information. If you’re still unable to login after this time, please get in touch.

2. Choose your top six

We want you to be happy in your new home, which is why you’ll have the chance to list your preferred accommodation options. You’ll be able to choose six in total, with number one being your first pick. We have a wide range of accommodation available at the University of Birmingham to suit everyone. By providing us with your preferences it gives helps us ensure that the right rooms are available for you when you go to book your room.

Whilst we can’t guarantee that you’ll get one of your six choices, we will have a range of rooms from across our selection for you to choose from. When selecting your room, you can filter on location, room types, catering options and more.

3. Guarantee your accommodation

We guarantee all undergraduates, international postgraduates, study abroad and exchange students a room in our accommodation.

Simply apply for accommodation online before the deadline to guarantee your place. This is 30 June for UK undergraduates and 31 July for non-UK undergraduates and postgraduate students.

If you miss the deadline, you can still apply for accommodation with us but we can’t guarantee that you’ll receive an offer.

If we have availability, we’ll find the closest match available for you. If not, we’ll ensure you receive the support you need to find accommodation in the private sector.

What happens next?

1. Receive your booking invitation

If you applied for accommodation with us by 30 June (UK student) or 31 July (international student), and your place at the University of Birmingham has been confirmed, we’ll invite you to book your room on or just after A-level results day.

We’ll give you all the information you need to book online, including a timeslot to access the system.

2. Secure your room

Once you’ve found your perfect room, all that’s left to do is pay the £550 Advance Payment and the room’s all yours! Alternatively, you can pay for your accommodation fees in full.

Please note that the Advance Payment is an initial instalment towards your accommodation fees, not a deposit, which means that it won’t be refunded to you at the end of your contract.

If you’ve chosen a room with one of our partners, you may be required to pay an Advance Payment or a deposit to secure your room. They’ll be in touch as soon as you’ve completed your booking.

3. Look forward to starting life at Birmingham
