Today's students face rising living costs and cuts to maintenance grants. The University continues to prioritise widening participation in higher education and promoting social mobility, and you can help students improve their career prospects by supporting internships or work experience placements.
What's the impact?
We aim to produce well-rounded graduates that are able to compete in an increasingly competitive employability market. Balancing academic prowess with real-world experience is vital. It is especially crucial for Access to Birmingham students – and students from similar backgrounds from across the UK – to experience commercial environments, develop a range of transferable skills and benefit from mentoring. Many of these students don’t have access to networks of professional contacts that can support them in navigating their future career paths.
Philanthropic support allows Birmingham to provide a range of bursaries to offer financial support to students taking up internships or work experience placements. This will greatly enhance their career prospects and support the development of important skills. The opportunities that these internships provide is often cited by our alumni as being instrumental in the steps they took after graduating from the University.
