Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy University gifts and merchandise?
Clothing and accessories, jewellery, stationery and prints of the University campus are among the merchandise available from our Gifts and Souvenirs store.
How do I obtain a copy of my degree certificate and a transcript of my grades?
Official copies of degree certificates are available from the University’s Online Shop. For enquiries, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
A transcript is a summary of a student’s academic performance and progress to date and you will probably need one if you are moving on to further study. You can order a transcript from the University Online Shop. For further details, or to request a letter confirming your study at the University, call Student Services on +44 (0)121 414 3091 or visit the website.
I would like to keep my @bham.ac.uk email address, is this possible?
Alumni who graduated during or after Summer 2015 are automatically enrolled in the Alumni email 'for life' service. The service offers:
- Continuation of use of your student email account as an alumni after you have graduated*
- A 50GB mailbox with a cleaner interface and enhanced features
- The use of an @alumni.bham.ac.uk email address
- Mail sent to your previous @student.bham.ac.uk address will be delivered to your new @alumni.bham.ac.uk address for three months after your account transitions to alumni status
*Postgraduate Research students will lose access to any existing email and a new email account will be created on Office 365.
For more information, including how to access your Alumni email account, please visit the IT Service Desk's Knowledge Base article KB12939.
If you graduated before Summer 2015, then unfortunately you will not be able to keep your @bham.ac.uk email address. You may wish to sign up for an email forwarding address ending @bhamalumni.org instead, which is a simple way to ensure your friends know how to contact you. The @bhamalumni.org email address is recognised by Facebook and will enable you to join the Birmingham UK Network.
Due to the resources required we are unable to provide a mailbox but you can obtain a free mailbox by subscribing to Hotmail, where you are able to change the address for your outgoing mail to your bhamalumni.org address. For further information, visit our online alumni community your.bham.
Can I still be a member of the University library after I graduate?
Alumni are eligible for free reference membership of the library for the first 12 months after graduation. An ID check will be carried out, so please bring your degree certificate or alumni card. If you don’t have an alumni card, please email email@example.com.
When the 12 months free membership is complete, reference membership can be renewed at the concessionary rate of £25, or members can borrow up to six books for an annual rate of £37.50. Please contact Library Services on +44 (0)121 414 5828 for further details.
How do I arrange life membership of the Guild of Students?
By becoming a life member of the Guild, you can continue to use and enjoy the Guild of Students and its many services for a one-off fee of £10. For further details, contact Lisa Clark on +44 (0)121 251 2308 or at firstname.lastname@example.org
Can the University continue to offer me any career support after I graduate?
The University is committed to helping its present and past students pursue the career they want, so the Careers and Employability Service continues to offer its full range of services for the first year after graduation.
