Cultural Intern Scheme Applications Now Open
Applications open for the University of Birmingham’s Cultural Internship Scheme
Applications are now open for the University of Birmingham’s acclaimed Cultural Intern Scheme. Sponsored by the University and its cultural partners, the scheme offers successful applicants a six-month paid work-based placement between October 2015 and March 2016.
Placements offer real opportunities to gain high quality work experience and to undertake meaningful projects at one of ten leading cultural organisations in the West Midlands region.
Placement hosts include:
- BBC Birmingham
- Birmingham Museums Trust
- Birmingham Opera Company
- Birmingham Repertory Theatre
- Flatpack Film Festival
- Ironbridge Gorge Museums
- Town Hall/Symphony Hall
- Shakespeare Birthplace Trust
The programme is designed to increase graduates’ knowledge and skills, and for interns to gain an interesting and valuable introduction to the workplace which will enhance their future employment prospects. The structure of the programme includes joint residential training sessions based at the University at the start and middle of the internship with individual mentoring available throughout.
The scheme is open to University of Birmingham students graduating this year and alumni who graduated during or since 2010. You will have a first class Honours degree or Masters degree (please note, applications from students with a 2:1 will be considered). You will also have volunteering experience within the arts or cultural sector, strong communication skills, and an ambition to kick start your career in the cultural sector.
