On Thursday 20 July 2017 we hosted the first UK event in the Bringing Birmingham to You series, in the spectacular surroundings on the London Eye.
Two Birmingham academics came to London to meet alumni, and presented short, informal talks on their particular area of expertise within one of the pods in London's famous wheel. Guests enjoyed access to the Eye Lounge, fast-track entry, two revolutions of the wheel, and drinks and canapés on board.
50 alumni and friends attended the two talks given by our speakers:
Sci-fi Forests: Professor Rob MacKenzie, Director of the Birmingham Insitute of Forestry Research, discussed how vegetation can improve air quality in cities. Rob answered questions during and after his talk and gave alumni a virtual tour of the site via VR headsets.
Post Election Parliament: Professor Scott Lucas, Professor in International Politics and professional journalist, gave his thoughts on what the UK's political landscape could look like following the Brexit vote and the 2017 General Election.
We were really pleased that the event proved to be so popular and both pods were very quickly sold out.
The event was live on Twitter – the hashtag used was #WeAreBrumAlum
