In 2015 the School of Dentistry will open the new Birmingham Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry. Located just a mile from the University's Edgbaston campus it will be the first integrated, stand-alone dental hospital and dental school to be built in the UK for almost 40 years.

The new hospital and school will provide modern facilitates for students and staff closer to the University campus. Exceptional facilities will help to secure the future of research, teaching and clinical service for the city, region, and beyond.

The building will be the new home for the College of Medical and Dental Sciences’ School of Dentistry, and will also house a range of services for the public. These will include walk-in emergency dental care, Oral Surgery and Medicine, Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry.

Old-dental

The landmark development by Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Trust, the University of Birmingham, Birmingham, Solihull LIFT (BaS LIFT), and Calthorpe Estates is highly strategic for the city. It will form part of the new Edgbaston Medical Quarter and further enhances the city’s reputation as a hub of Medicine, Learning and Life Sciences.

The building will open to staff, students, and the public in time for the beginning of the 2015 autumn term. It will replace the existing dental hospital and school at St Chad’s Circus in the city centre, which is more than 50 years old.

UPDATE - AUGUST 2015
Due to a number of challenges with the construction programme, a decision has been taken by all partners to reschedule the opening of the new Birmingham Dental Hospital and School of Dentistry. This has been agreed in order to minimise disruption and maintain continuity of service for patients, students and staff.

All partners will be working closely together over the coming weeks to revise the programme of works with a new opening date.

Once agreed this will be communicated, it is expected that the new opening date will be known by Welcome Week.
