University of Birmingham USA Alumni Society Update
Kerrie Holland, Acting Head of Supporter Engagement and Paula Duff, International Major Gifts Manager, travelled around the USA and Canada earlier this month to meet with some of our alumni. Events were held in Seattle, Vancouver and California with the Annual University of Birmingham USA Alumni Society gathering taking place in Palo Alto, CA.
Alumni from the Bay Area met at the Creekside Inn on the evening of Saturday 4 October in Palo Alto for a social gathering where they were greeted by James Stamp, local alumni convener and member of the National Alumni Organizing Committee, and by other members of the committee, David Drinkwater, Chairman, based in New York City and Brian Beeston, based in San Diego. Earlier in the day a number of alumni and the Committee also had a fascinating guided tour of the Computer History Museum in Palo Alto.
Drinks and hors d’oeuvres were served amid lively conversation and some reminiscing. Kerrie Holland presented an update on the University’s recent achievements and developments along with plans for the future, including the new library and sports centre. Particular pride was taken in the University being named the 2016 University of the Year for Graduate Employment, a significant honour.
Those in attendance had an enjoyable evening and look forward to the next opportunity to get together and greet more of their local alumni colleagues; there are more than 100 in the Bay Area alone.
Alumni Social Events are being planned for the following cities. If you would like to be involved either as a local facilitator or attendee, place contact the named National Committee member.
