In June 2013, the University of Birmingham opened its campus and its doors for its annual Community Day. The Storywalk took place as part of the varied programme of events and activities translating current academic research and activity at the University. These included mask making, rocket building, gold panning and much more besides.
UoB graduates and storytellers Annamation, led audiences on a special tour of the museums and collections across campus, bringing to life paintings and objects en route. Story-telling linked the collections, with the theme of ‘Windows of Curiosity’ encouraging children and adults alike to look beyond the exhibition spaces. Stories, games, songs and dances ensured everyone had a great time, racing each other across campus to reach the next collection. The Storywalk tour took in the pop art prints of Eduardo Paolozzi, dinosaurs in the Lapworth Museum of Geology, Ancient Greek pottery in the Archaeology Museum, African proverbs in the Danford Collection of West African Art and Artefacts and portraiture in the Barber Institute of Fine Arts.
