Coaching is one of the most powerful strategies to leverage unlocking an individual’s potential and maximising performance. The recent interest in the use of Coaching within educational settings has steadily grown in the UAE, with many schools adopting a coaching culture and using a solution focused approach. Coaching is an essential component of an effective professional development program as it can build skills, knowledge and capacity thereby, challenge the values, behaviors, practices and beliefs of both experienced and novice educators.

The purpose of this one day workshop is to demonstrate how the use of coaching frameworks and tools can enhance the performance of your team and maximise their capability. Refining the use of a solution focused approach ensures that effective coaching distributes leadership and keeps the focus on teaching and learning. This focus promotes the development of leadership skills, professional learning, and support for teachers that target ways to improve student outcomes. Participants will be introduced to some of the latest thinking around the impact of coaching in an educational setting as well as exploring strategies that can be implemented as part of daily practice.

PARTICIPANTS

An essential feature of coaching is that it uses the relationships between Coaches, Senior Leaders, and Teachers to create the conversation that leads to behavioral, pedagogical, and content knowledge change. The intended audience for this course includes school CPD leaders, mentors (responsible for the development of early career teachers), middle leaders (KS, phase and subject leaders) contemplating the transition towards using coaching in the development of their staff and requiring a deeper understanding of the competencies that are required. Class Teachers would also highly benefit in understanding how coaching strategies can be implemented within the classroom with students.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

You will leave the course with an understanding of how to:

  • Develop coaching competencies required for effective coaching, in particular active listening, suspending judgement, providing feedback and challenge within a safe environment
  • Use coaching as a vehicle for professional development in an educational setting
