Schools are highly complex environments that require teachers to be able to problem solve and to respond flexibly, efficiently and effectively to a multitude of different demands. Without doubt this relies on the development of effective school leadership at all levels. However, research increasingly demonstrates the importance of middle leaders as crucial agents in facilitating school change that has a direct and meaningful impact on student learning to ensure best outcomes for all.  

PARTICIPANTS

The intended audience for this course includes aspirant middle leaders who are looking to make the next step into leadership and currently serving middle leaders who are interested in developing their own understanding of the role within the UAE context.

You will leave the course with having explored the complex role of middle with a specific focus on the following:

  • An overview of the difference between leadership and management and what it looks like for a middle leader in schools
  • The main skills and behaviours needed to be  a good middle leader
  • A clearer understanding of your own areas of strength and areas for development as a middle leader 
  • A developed vision of your department/area of responsibility and how to implement it in your own school context

A tuition fee of 1250 AED will be invoiced following the workshop. An early bird fee of 1000 AED is available for bookings on or before Tuesday 28th January.

WORKSHOP LEADERS

Anne RaynorDr Anne Raynor, Director of Education Programmes

An expert in the field of inclusion and school leadership, Dr Anne Raynor has worked as a SENCo and headteacher in both special and international schools for many years, both in the UK and internationally. She is also an Independent School Inspector, with expertise in inclusion and compliance. Anne has a Masters in Therapeutic Intervention for Children and Young People, a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and is also a qualified and experienced SENCo. She works closely with regulatory bodies here in the region to support school improvement and development in the field of inclusive education. She is passionate about raising standards in schools and inclusive education and has an international portfolio of CPD delivery and inclusion consultancy. Anne is currently Director of Education Programmes and Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham.

Sanam_cropSanam Yaqub, Executive Coach and Mentor

Sanam currently serves as a member of the University of Birmingham’s Coaching Academy as well as her role with the School of Education as the School Partnership Strategies Manager at the Dubai campus. Prior to taking up this position, Sanam held various leadership posts in UK and UAE schools, leading across whole school initiatives, subject specialisms and departments. She has experience of leading and managing change through using a solution focused coaching approach in education settings, working with middle and senior leaders through using both group and one to one executive coaching.
