Following its inception in 2008 the Indian Premier League (IPL) has become a major annual sporting event and, arguably, the largest regularly staged sporting tournament hosted in an emerging market economy (EME).

Before the Open Day on Saturday 5th May, Professor Derek Condon from the University of Birmingham’s Business School will discuss the status of EMEs and why they are continuing to grow in importance before moving on to consider the IPL as an analogy for doing business in EMEs, and in particular modern Indian.

The presentation will consider how the IPL has adopted modern technologies and ideas from outside of India while at the same time having to manage challenges that are more common in EMEs than those found in most developed economies, finally, considering how to compare the attractiveness of EMEs for potential investments.
