With our unique BEng Mechanical Engineering with a Year in Computer Science programme, you will cover core mechanical engineering subjects that are designed to develop your learning progressively and conduct integrated design projects that provide an excellent opportunity to work in groups on a large engineering activity with industry input. You will also gain an in-depth knowledge of computing to enhance your work-based computational skills focussed on engineering applications.

Our fantastic, purpose-built facilities, fitted out with a range of advanced equipment and computer science software on our brand new, technology enhanced 'smart' campus will give you access to exciting experiments and laboratory sessions to enhance your learning. Teaching is joint between academics on our Dubai campus, and our Edgbaston Campus. You will also have the opportunity to interact and work alongside students in our Edgbaston campus in the UK whilst you study at our Dubai campus.

By successfully completing the BEng Mechanical Engineering with a Year in Computer Science programme to at least a high 2.2, and subject to UK Visa  approval, you can progress onto our MSc in Advanced Mechanical Engineering, allowing you to continue your education at postgraduate level.

Modules

All modules listed are compulsory.

The first two years of our BEng Mechanical Engineering with a Year in Computer Science course have been designed to provide a contemporary and flexible educational model that builds upon essential engineering fundamentals to develop students’ broader understanding of behaviour, policy, entrepreneurship, and global perspectives and kindles the passion necessary to address the societal challenge agenda.

Year three

This year will offer you the opportunity to study Computer Science to a higher level than the traditional Mechanical Engineering programme.

Year four

In the final year the fundamentals of engineering are used to explore advanced engineering topic areas, with a more problem solving based focus, within the context of a broadly based programme of study. In your final year you undertake a major individual project linked to your chosen field of specialisation. You will also undertake a group design study project exploring the associated commercial, legal and safety aspects of developing a new product.

UK

3 A Levels. Typical offer AAB - ABB. A level Mathematics grade A (Further Mathematics and Physics are not required but are advantageous). You must also pass the practical element of any reformed science A Levels which include Biology, Chemistry and Physics taught from 2015. General studies not accepted.

International Baccalaureate Diploma

6,6,5 – 6,5,5 at Higher Level to include 6 in Mathematics with a minimum of 32 points overall.

Either a total of 3 distinct subject tests from APs and/or SAT subject tests or one year at a Community College or USA University.

This world famous programme has many strengths. One of them is the Integrated Design Subject which runs through all of academic years during the course of the study.

Learning and teaching methods will take the form of lectures, classes, case study work, online assignments and quizzes, presentations and self-directed study.

Work will be assessed via exams, coursework, presentations and a dissertation.

I had secured a summer placement with GKN through the University Mentoring Scheme, which allows me to learn about new skills and areas as well as incorporating the teaching I am learning at University.
